The Feminist - Ruby

In her own playful, excitable style, Ruby points out that girls can do anything boys can do. Considering she’s already met Gloria Steinem, she may be the world’s youngest feminist!

I'm 11 and I had no clue what feminism was! I think it's amazing that a 7 3/4 year old girl would know what it meant.

I no, rite? (BTW, I just <3 2 do dat.) (:

I'm 12 and before this i didn't know what feminism was!

Ok, I really really dig this. But I have to say it's pretty disappointing to see this stuff sponsored by Barbie. Sure, everyone played with them, but maybe it's time to get beyond her...is there a Feminist Barbie? Is she trying to eliminate the other forms of oppression also at the root of oppression? Ruby seems beyond Barbie, so why aren't we?

Barbie gets a bad rap. I know there's problems with body image issues and the fairy princess themes, but at least she's not another baby doll. She has careers, often in male-dominated industries like medicine and space-travel. She's the center of the action and Ken's the peripheral accessory, which is the gender-opposite of the usual Smurfette set-up. With a few tweaks, Barbie could be a feminist.

I was also a bit turned off by the Barbie sponsorship. However, it is a far cry better than Bratz. Those dolls are awful!

i

haha..yerp..lurve it too..

Loved it! Best one yet!
