Episode “Hitting with a Hybrid”
Joe Beck: Joe here, I am going to talk to you about one of the greatest clubs ever invented. It is called the Hybrid or the Rescue. The reason it is so great, it has taken the place of the long irons. The two, three, four irons there obsolete. The reason is because your two three and four irons are very difficult to hit. Look at how thin the blade is here. Look how narrow that is.
Take a look at the Hybrid. There is a lot of mass behind it, a lot of mass behind the face. Also the center of gravity on the Hybrid is very low which helps you hit the ball high. The tough thing about the long irons is always hitting the ball high and having the ball land soft. Not anymore check out the hybrid.
The other thing about the Hybrid is you have got to treat it like an iron. You always want to feel like you are going to hit down on it, so the ball goes up. You don’t want to treat it like a fairway metal. The fairway metal is a little too far up in your stance when you are trying t hit a little bit more on the upswing. The hybrid hit it on the down swing. The ball goes up nice and high, lands soft. Let me show you.
When you get set up, make sure the ball is slightly forward in your stance. Take your normal swing and then hit down on it just like you would a mid or short iron. That’s what I am talking about.
Keypoints:
1. Ball forward in stance
2. Same swing as an iron
3. Hit down on ball
