Hitting Out Of The Rough

You've landed in the rough. Don't fret. Take Joe's advice and get outta there! It happens to every golfer at some point in their game, but there's a way to get out fast and not risk the rest of your round. Even Joe knows the stuck-in-the-rough blues!

I'm confused, wouldn't LESS loft be an 8 iron? A PW has MORE loft than a nine , not less. I always thought that you went DOWN aclub from the rough.

I suspect Joe simply misspoke when he says there's "less loft" on a PW than 9. Later on in lesson, he only refers to "less club."

Yo Joe !! Good stuff however I get a lot of fuffy lies. Ball sits up high and I often go under it catching the top part of the clubface and losing distance. Any tips for hitting this shot ?...great vids

I've been playing for a long while and have forgotten most of what I once knew (Played off 6 forty years back) and I need some heavy brushing up to get back to around 18 or so. Thanks for the help.

i woulk like to learn

Why would you use less club, but the rest is good stuff

If you were to hit it from the fairway you would put backspin on it. Out of the rough you lose spin and the ball will go farther after it lands.

Don't know about you, but I don't know many amateurs who know how to put backspin on a fairway iron shot. That's Pro Tour stuff to spin the ball back to the pin.

A few reasons, the rough can close the clubface a little making the flight lower and stonger. The grass between ball and club eliminates backspin making hte ball fly further and bounce forward. The fact that you make a stonger swing to get through the grass can give you more clubhead speed.

please i need coperation

Nice tip for the hands.

Joe makes it look so easy, well demonstrated.
