Feng Shui your Way
Episode “Lamberts restaurant”

Leigh Kubin: Welcome to Feng Shui Your Way I am your host Leigh Kubin, have you ever been in a space that feels uninviting? We are at Lambert's downtown barbecue with owner Lou Lambert who needs our help and his upstairs bar so let's get inside and get to work.
Lou we're at your upstairs bar at Lambert’s in downtown Austin and I know you guys recently opened so tell me a little bit about what your goals are for working with me today.
Lou Lambert: I am really excited that you are here, we have been very busy as a restaurant and lounge we have got two floors, upstairs is live music and bar and down stairs is the dining room and kitchen and I have just felt that since we have been opened this room is not complete. It does not have the warmth and lounge feel that we're going after. I just think that we're missing a few elements and I look forward to your input.
Leigh Kubin: Well it is interesting from a Feng Shui perspective you did a great job of representing all of the elements, you just left out the fire so I think that if we can incorporate the fire into the decor I think it would balance it out perfectly and I think we can do that with some paints. I you interested in window treatments of any sorts?
Lou Lambert: Yeah, I have always loved the openness of the windows but at times it is almost too much coming in and too much happening so you can lose sight of what is happening in the room as well as I think it would be a great way to introduce some kind of color and texture.
Leigh Kubin: It will also bring it down a little bit to help people relax in here.
Lou Lambert: Yeah, I agree. The things that we're looking at doing, the things that as a restaurant guy, a food guy that I see we're lacking now are treatments on the windows, seating we are going to look and see if the seating is correct. Then just what can we do color wise, pictures, what can do an esthetically to make the room feel warmer.
Leigh Kubin: Are you interested in maybe replacing some of the artwork in here?
Lou Lambert: Yes, I like the subject matter of what we have up now but I always thought that the colors just don't work with the room, both from the colors currently in the room and just that the colors don't give any vibrance or any activity to the room.
Leigh Kubin: Well they don't tell a story, and they do not tell who you are. You have done a great job with your stage area, that is the journey area of this room and you have picked black for the curtain and you have got the sound energy with the piano. You really did a perfect job with that, with the bar area is white which is metal and that falls in your fame and reputation area and I know that you want people to know about Lambert's so I think a great choice for this area would be to paint it read or are you open to that?
Lou Lambert: Totally, again I felt that this room was lacking a little bit of energy and that sounds like it will bring some in.
Leigh Kubin: Yes I think that will be a perfect choice for that space. One issue that I see in your space is that you have a staircase going down right into your wealth area so we really need something to lift that energy up, we can use plants but I know that you get very busy and very crowded so we can also use artwork. Think about upward moving energy and think about vertical pieces of art, maybe thin, tall.
Lou Lambert: Are there any colors we should try to stay away from?
Leigh Kubin: Red is something you want to stay away from, you want to include black it is a great color for the area, purple or anything that is jewel tones. So think about royalty and think about wealth and think about that area accumulating wealth for you.
For Lambert's upstairs bar we're going to paint the wall behind the bar red to activate the fame area, add a bulletin board to the wealthy area to advertise different events going on that will bring the money, place new art on the walls that they want to create the feel in this space and finally hang window shades to create balance in the room.
Tell me what is your favorite thing that you did in here?
Lou Lambert: By far I think the thing that made the most dramatic change in this room was painting the walls read behind the bar to me it changed the room immensely, you walk up in here and it is a bar that is the first thing you notice which being a bar that is what we want our patrons to notice. As well we were able to adjust our lighting levels because of the color and the bottles just pop out at night so it is beautiful and it has just transformed the room.
Leigh Kubin: And it is interesting and that is what you want to be known for and that is exactly what you have created.
Lou Lambert: Yes exactly, and I think the red was the perfect color.
Leigh Kubin: A really balances out the room, with the shades on the window you have that color coming in and you just added some depth and warmth to the room.
Lou Lambert: Yes I agree.
Leigh Kubin: The wealth area looks great, I love the fixture that you chose to draw the eye up rather than down the stairs and the bulletin board is great. What are you going to use that for?
Lou Lambert: What we have been using the bulletin board for is upcoming shows or any kind of specials that we're doing in the bar, we put the bar menu up there so is kind of the place we go or our customers go for information on what is happening here in the bar.
Leigh Kubin: And it is also where you're getting your wealth from sub that is perfect. Lou I have had so much fun working with you, the bar turned out great I cannot wait to see all the great things that happen and I hope you stay in touch.
Lou Lambert: Thank you, this has been and experience, not just working with you but the results that we have achieved in a very short time with not very much pain is dramatic, the room is totally different and we have achieved our purpose here of making it feel warmer and more like a bar.
Leigh Kubin: I agree when I walked in I could feel the difference.
Lou Lambert: Thank you.
Leigh Kubin: I had so much fun, for Feng Shui Your Way I am Leigh Kubin and we will see you next time.
