Episode “Feng Shui Your Office. Cubicle ”

Leigh: Welcome to Feng Shui your Way, I'm your host Leigh Kubin. How many of us spend the majority of our day in an office setting? Today we are at Altar Point and we are going to be working in Ricks cubicle showing you techniques you can take anywhere from your desk to your office. Rick, tell me your goals for Feng Shuing your cubicle to day.
Rick: Well I have a few things that I would like to try, first I would like to improve my professional skills both as a technical writer and as a manager. I would like to find a nice balance between work life and home life and finally I would like to get a promotion to the next level.
Leigh: Those are great goals, so let’s go take a look at your cubicle and see how we can set that up to support those goals.
Rick: Sure let’s do it.
Leigh: The thing I love most about this office is how they set it up with the décor, the colors on the walls are calming and they have got the bamboo so there really setting you guys up to be relaxed in this atmosphere. The next step is to go inside your cubicle, and in your wisdom airy you have got quotes, which are great. I think that you need quotes that inspire you in that area, since you really want to become a better technical writer and improve your skills let’s find some things that inspire you. We will move the quotes that are in your wisdom area right now to the creativity area which will encourage you to have fun.
The entrance to your cubicle is the journey area which is about possibilities and you want to have those possibilities open for you. We can do a few things with this space, we can add water, which I do not know how that won’t work in your space with the computer. Yeah, you are saying no. So maybe we can find a welcome mat, a black welcome mat that we can put on the floor that would represent water and welcome in the possibilities.
Rick: Yeah I think I would like something like that.
Leigh: In your wealth area I noticed that you have the skull and crossbones flag hanging, cute flag but maybe not so cute for the wealth area because we want to encourage things to come in and not maybe push them away. So would you be open to moving that?
Rick: Absolutely.
Leigh: OK we can also put things that remind you of creating wealth and also a tree would be great to have some life to your cubicle. The relationship area of your cubicle is completely blank.
Rick: Ooh, is that bad?
Leigh: Well it is not that bad, I work have a client once you have a cat litter box in hers, so we can work with nothing, we can just build up. What you want to do is think about your team that you work here with, and you are a manager so you have a team of people that you work with. Consider pictures of all of you working together, or at least in that space that will represent you all working together.
The center part of your cubicle is actually the health area and to me it is the most important part, because if that is balanced everything else can fall into balance to. Let’s find something circular to put in their.
Rick: One thing I’m interested in changing is my back wall, it just seems kind of blank and nothing is really happening there, do you have any suggestions for what I can do there?
Leigh: Yes, that is your fame and reputation area. What do you want to be known for?
Rick: I kind of like being known for being laid back, so maybe something that would represent that.
Leigh: Oh, that sounds like fun. In the family and ancestry area of your office you can think about where you gain your knowledge from, which could maybe be spme diplomas, is that something that you would want to put up in this space?
Rick: Well probably not my diplomas, but I can think of something to come up with.
Leigh: Because you can also maybe add your family pictures there, because you want a balance between home and work. Family pictures would do well there too.
Rick: Oh that is a great idea.
Leigh: OK, in the creativity area I would like to see the quotes from the wisdom area moved over there, representing you not taking things too seriously yet being inspired. In the helpful people area of your cubicle I like to look at that as your territory and where you want to call in those helpful people from. What would you consider your territory, or who would you consider to be your helpful people?
Rick: I cant really do my job unless everybody in the company is supporting me, I really need the help of everyone here.
Leigh: Oh that is awesome, OK so let’s find a creative way to include everybody in the company in that space in your cubicle.
Rick: OK, yeah.
Leigh: We have got some really good ideas to get started on your cubicle, are you ready?
Rick: Alright I am ready to make this happen.
Leigh: OK let’s go Fung Shui it.
Rick: Well I cannot believe what you have done.
Leigh: Do you love it?
Rick: I do, it is amazing that you can actually feel the transformation, a already starts to have a better vibe to it.
Leigh: It feels so relaxing and comfortable, I’m so excited for what we did.
Rick: Me too.
Leigh: You got your black matte for the journey area so you have got that area activated. I love the quotes that you have put up in the wisdom area, I think that that will really inspire youthrough the day. You have got the family area activated with the pictures of your family, so that will really help you create a balance between work and home. And you’re wealth area you added that bamboo, which is a great addition to activate that sector. Tell me about the fame and reputation area, I loved what you chose.
Rick: Thanks, well kind of what I wanted to do was just provide a laid back atmosphere, something that was calming, and accessible so people come by and need help with anything they know it is OK to come by and visit.
Leigh: Well you have certainly created that image in there, and I love what you did. In the relationship area you added the picture of your team and that will really unite you, so that was perfect. I love the quotes that you moved over to the creativity side, to keep you having fun but not too much fun.
Rick: Well I am a big movie fan and so I just wanted to put some fun quotes up there, they do not really represent a whole lot, it is just something that is enjoyable to me.
Leigh: Well it will be a reminder to not take things too seriously.
Rick: That is true.
Leigh: And helpful people area you did a great job with that, for bringing in the whole company.
Rick: Well I thought who do I depend on here? I depend on everybody really in the company, so what better way to represent that then take a picture of the picture board that we have that has a picture of every employee in the company on it.
Leigh: I love that creativity, perfect. Well in the center you added the round rug which creates a balanced through out your whole cubicle so you are set, you are ready to go. You did a great job.
Rick: Thank you I am really excited about the results. I think you did a fantastic job as well and I am really looking forward to working in my new cubicle.
Leigh: Well I have had so much fun and we will be in touch to see what happens.
Rick: Great.
