Don’t get me wrong, Backpack’s not for everybody – it’s about as random as it comes – but it’s definitely a breath of fresh air in the sketch comedy landscape where lame writing and tired clichés flourish.

Sketchfest: Weekend 2 Round-Up
Time Out Chicago - 01.14.08
They came to town via Austin amidst huge buzz from the sketch community, so I was pumped to see what these boys could bring. If you were hanging around the fest later Friday night, you already know that I thought this show was phenomenal. At the risk of sounding like a Rolling Stone movie review, I’ll add that I laughed the entire time. Hard.
Speaking with: Mitch Baker
Chicago Sun-Times - 01.11.08
Take the absurdity of Monty Python and mix it with the wit and hilarity of Kids in the Hall and you've got yourself the makings of Backpack Picnic. The Austin, Texas-based sketch comedy troupe, best known for its top-rated Internet shorts on onnetworks.com, will perform as part of the Chicago Sketchfest.

I like how the news ticker on the bottom changes when the ice cream come out
One of my favs!
Beautiful. Smart. Funny.
Classic! Hilarious, and the attention to little details makes it...
Wait...this is still being beta tested...why??
I laughed my ass off!
Tell ON what you think.
I cracked up more the second and third viewing because I missed a lot of hilarious stuff the first time through...
i agree with thedollarbill those lines are genius - i watched it for the second time and caught even more subtilties. ice cream!
Brilliant! I love the little details, like the small print in the newspaper at the end, "...yadda, yadda, yadda...".
i can't stop laughing. and clapping everytime he says ice cream. this is delightful on so many levels.
Now that is some funny stuff. I enjoy comedy that doesn't treat me like I'm an idiot.
"It is my distinct honor to regret to inform you..." Genius.
Everyday. O.o
BP-smart writing, good production, target audience
themagiclemon, I'm curious as to why you chose to put so much emphasis on "some *RANDOM* emperor?" How often does one run into these random emperors?
deliciously hilarious, i say!
lol sour puss. Cocktails on the fly is good and what normal person refers to Mozart and some RANDOM emperor???
Great stuff ! These folks show a lot of promise !!!
Well, I love it of course.
his name is Reed Chapman...that alone is freakin' funny
Funny and smart.
I love the fact that these guys are so random! It's similar to Family Guy when they just cut away for a few seconds for a quick laugh. It works for me.
It's funny haha and funny thinkthink. The writer is a genius.
It's funny haha and funny thinkthink.
Backpack Picnic is pretty funny. Great skit ideas. Awesome new comedy.
The ticker tape in this episode is subtle but genius! I only wish there were more to watch.
too random? magiclemon reminds me of the emperor in Amadeus telling Mozart that his opera has "too many notes". i like this show. can't wait to see more!
keep 'em coming!
Definitely weird, but funny. Am I buckled over in stitches? No. But, do I believe it will have a following and become addictive and funnier with time, yes.
themagiclemon is such a sourpuss! is there any show up here you DO like?
this is some of the most refreshing sketch comedy i've seen since KITH. it's weird, but still packs a great laugh for a short segment.
This level of humor can potentially only be appreciated by a certain audience. However, since I am within that audience I feel safe to say this show is brilliant, insightful and WEIRD!
Better but still NOT good.
Too random.
