Episode: “Knockdown Shot“

Joe Beck: Joe here, I am going to show you a unique shot, it is the knockdown shot. We have got to keep the ball down low so we can control it into the wind. If it gets up it will float away from us and we will lose control of it. It is going to be a low shot, into the wind with a lot of control.
Here is how it works, first of all you need to make sure the ball position is correct, it is going to be in the center of your stance. After that you want to make your normal golf swing on the way back and on the way through you want to drag the club through like this and then keep the club head down and square so the ball stays low and online with your target. Here is how it works.
Get setup, ball position in the center, make your normal swing and keep the club down. That’s what I am talking about.

Key points:
1. Keep the ball low.
2. Ball in center of stance.
3. Normal backswing.
4. Drag club through impact.

Episode: “Upslope lie“

Joe Beck: Joe here, we are on an uneven lie, a matter of fact we’re on the upslope, I’m going to show you how to hit it off of this upslope correctly, but first I’m going to show you the incorrect way to do it. First of all typically the player uses the same club as he would for the yardage, and that is not good, it is too much loft. Second they typically play it where the ball position is in the same place which would be to four forward and third they would set up naturally where their shoulders are too much into the hill instead of along side of the hill.
Here are the results, as they make a swing they will swing and end up falling off balance missing the shot. We’re not going to do that, here’s what happens when you do it incorrectly and then I’m going to show you how to do it correctly. Get set up, the ball is too far forward and too much loft, my shoulders are in the wrong place and here’s the bad result.
That is not how to do it, obviously a bad result. Let me show you how to do it. What you want to do to do it correctly is to make sure that you have the right loft. And the way to figure that out is to find out what your yardage is and take one more club. Typically on the upslope you’re going to hit the ball higher and shorter. In this case we went from a pitching wedge to a 9 iron. The way to set up correctly that we are going to have the ball more in the center of our stance and make sure that our shoulders are more in line with the hill towards the slope. And then when you take your swing you want to make sure you go through the ball all the way to your finish. All of this creates incredible results, watch this.
Take one more club and make sure the ball position is in the center of your stance, make sure your shoulders are tilted, and then from there all you have to do is swing with the hill to a good balanced finish. That’s what I am talking about.
Key points:
1. Club up one club.
2. Ball in center stance.
3. Tilt shoulders with slope.

Episode “Long Putt”

Joe: Joe here, we have got a long putt. The reason it is a long putt, is to me it is over 25 feet, this one is about 33 feet. There are three keys to hitting a good long putt; Number one, if you leave it close it is ok, if you happen to leave it close it is ok.
Number two is going to be how we setup; we are going to setup a little bit taller so our arms can swing. Number three we want to make sure that we visualize. We are going to get back here behind the ball and work real hard on the visualization. You can see this right here, the ball goes up the hill a little bit, breaks a little bit to the right and then it gets to the top of the hill and breaks back to the left. So now we know how the ball is going to roll.
We are going to walk up to it, get setup, and remember to stand up a little bit taller. Take a couple of practice swings to get a feel for it and then let’s hit the putt. That’s what I am talking about.
Key points:
1. It is ok to leave the ball close to the hole.
2. Setup taller and swing arms.
3. Visualize the putt.

Episode “Hook shot”

Joe Beck: Joe here, check this shot out. We can’t go over, and we can’t go through it, we have got to go around it. I’m going to show you how to hit a hook shot around this tree onto the green. It requires some unique set up, so let me go through it with you real quick and make sure you have it exactly right to hit the shot.
Here is how it works, you want to make sure your club face is lined up at the target and then your body is going to be lined up in the direction that you want the ball to start. So here is the club face at the target, and then here is my body to where I want it to start. The reason why I need to line it up that way is because on the downswing I have to follow my feet, the ball is going to start off right of the tree and then hook its way back into the flag.
Let me show you how it works, walk up and make sure the club face is right in line with the target. Then set your body up to where you want the ball to start because it is going to hook in from there. Then as you swing through your going to follow your feet and then roll the club over so the ball will hook starting right of the tree back to the target. That’s what I’m talking about.

Key points:
	1. Club face aimed at target
2. Aim body and feet right of target
3. Roll hands and club over on follow-through

Episode “Plugged Bunker”

Joe Beck: Joe here I am going to show you how to get out of this plugged lie. What a spot we are in, most people get over here and looked at it and panic. What we are going to do today is go through what you’re not supposed to do, and then obviously go through what you’re supposed to do. Here’s what you are not supposed to do. You walk up to it like a regular bunker shot and you’re thinking my gosh this thing is buried into the bunker, what do I do?
The guy gets in, get set up, and then he tries to do an extra hard cut at it. The bad thing is that the club face is already open, the club is going to bounce so the ball is going to go out, or maybe not even get out so let me show you how not to do it. That is not it, here’s how it works.
You walk up to it, make sure the ball is in the center of your stance, make sure that the club face is towed in like this so that when it enters the sand it works as a shovel, it digs the ball out. Our weight is going to be on our front foot, the only thing you have to think about here is that you pick the club up and then hit a couple of inches behind the ball and that entry of the sand is going to turn it into a explosion of sand on the green, and the ball is going to roll up their just like a putt.
Here’s how it works, get set up ball position, turn the toe in. Remember we are going to have to lift the club up and hit 2 inches behind the sand. That is what I’m talking about.
Key points:
1.	Ball in center of stance
2.	Toe in club face
3.	Weight on front foot
4.	Cock club and wrist up in backswing
5.	Hit 2 inches behind ball

Episode “Wedge Putt”

Joe: Joe here, we find ourselves on the putting green right up against the fringe, what do we do? There are three options, we can either putt, you can either chip it, or you can blade it. If you try to putt it what will happen is you are going to have to make a descending blow and you are going to end up hitting the ball with the bottom part of the putter, which is an unsolid shot and it will come out inconsistently.
We are not going to putt. If we tried to chip it, the chipping motion is going to be a descending blow and that is going to get hung up in the grass that will come out inconsistently, so we are not going to chip it. The key here is we are going to blade it, and the reason we are going to blade it is because the club head is going to stay right on top of the grass, float along on top of the grass and the leading edge is going to hit the ball right in the belly, and the ball is going to come out like a putt and roll to the hole.
Let me show you how it works: Get setup, lay the club down behind the ball, setup like you are going to putt, and then make the stroke. That’s what I am talking about.
Key points;
1. Grip like a putter.
2. Narrow stance.
3. Ball in center of stance.
4. Blade like a putter.
Ooh, now that’s what I am talking about.

Episode “Long Chip”

Joe Beck: Joe here, I am going to show you how to hit this long chip close to the hole. What we are going to do first is figure out how much green we have to work with. Here obviously we have a lot. We are going to chip the ball over this high grass onto the green and let it roll to the hole like a putt. The target is going to be right in this area. The ball is going to land in this area, and then roll to the hole like a putt.
The way to do that is to make sure you have the correct loft on your club. This shot requires less loft, so on a short shot you have more loft, like a 58 degree sand wedge. On longer shots this would require less loft so we are going to use a seven iron. Here is how the setup works.
First we are going got pick out our target. We are going to make sure the ball is in the center of our stance. We are going to make sure that our weight is on our front foot. And then we are also going to lean the club shaft towards the target. Like this.
What we don’t want is we don’t want that club shaft to go backwards. So this would be bad. This would be really good. Here is how it works.
That’s what I am talking about.

Key points:
1.	Pick target
2.	Ball in center of stance
3.	Weight on front foot
4.	Lean shaft towards target

Episode “Punch Shot”

Joe Beck: That’s not what I am talking about. In this situation we need to keep the ball low. We are trying to hit a punch shot. We want to learn how to ht a punch shot under the tree that gets us away from trouble, on to the green. Let me show you how to do it.

The most important thing here is choosing the correct loft. If you have too much loft in this shot, you are going to hit it right into the tree. If you have the correct amount of loft, which again is going to help you deloft it this way that is going to help you hit the ball low and get the proper results that you are looking for.

So remember take away the loft. Here is too much loft. Here is correct loft, this would be delofted. The idea would be instead of using your sand wedge, use your eight iron. I am going got show you how to hit a punch shot. The punch shot is going to stay low through these trees and give you a chance to score. Let me show you how it works.

You want to make sure the ball position is back in your stance. Then you get set up on it; put a little weight on your front foot. And as you go through impact, as you go through the hitting area, you want to make sure your hands stay forward like this. This is to keep the ball flight down ad keep the club just a little bit delofted and also keep the ball on the right line.

That’s what I am talking about.

Keypoints:
1.	Ball Back
2.	Weight Forward
3.	Hands forward
4.	Hands ahead through impact

Episode: “Short Chip”

Joe Beck: Joe here, I am going to show you how to make a short chip shot. Every once in awhile you find yourself in those predicament where you hit a good shot up by the green just off the edge you have got a little area to carry the ball onto the green and then you want the ball to roll to the hole like a putt.
You can see this high grass here; you are unable to putt through it so you have to chip over it. What I am going to use today is my sixty degree wedge. And this wedge is going to help me get the loft I need to get it over this first cut of grass and then let it roll to the hole like a putt.
The setup that we are going to use is really the setup that we use for most short shots. You are going to have the ball more centered in your stance, the weight is going to be on your front foot and then you want to make sure that the club shaft is always leaning towards your target. If the club shaft leans backwards then the ball is going to be mishit.
So in other words if the club shaft comes in and looks more like this, then you’re either going to blade the ball across the green or hit behind it. What we are trying to achieve is making sure that the club shaft stays forward the whole time during the shot. Here’s how it works.
Ball position in the center, weight on your front foot, lean the shaft towards your target and make sure the club shaft stays towards your target. That’s what I am talking about.
Key points:
1.	Ball centered
2.	Weight Forward
3.	Lean shaft forward to target
4.	Keep shaft forward to target

Episode: “Rockport Stinger”

Joe Beck: Joe here, I am going to show you a specialty shot called the Rockport stinger. The thing about the Rockport stinger is you can only use it in two conditions. Windy conditions and when the fairway is really firm. Let me show you how to set up for it. First of all you have to make sure the ball is teed up correctly.
Your normal height on a tee shot is not going to work, that’s normal height. What’s going to work is your going to have to tee the ball down about half as much. Then next thing you’re going to do is your going to walk up on it and make sure the ball position is more centered in your stance.
Then finally you have to make sure that your shoulders are going to be level to the ground, parallel to the ground. The regular way to set up in a driver is like this, this isn’t going to work because it is going to launch the ball up in the air. What we are trying to do is hit the ball low in to the wind and make sure it gets on the ground and runs, utilizing the firm fairways. Let me show you how it works.
Notice that height, nice and low. Into the wind, really under the wind, hits the ground running, its unbelievable. That’s what I am talking about.

Key points:
1.	Tee ball at half height
2.	Ball in middle of stance
3.	Shoulders level with ground

Golf Tips

Episode “Hitting with a Hybrid”

Joe Beck: Joe here, I am going to talk to you about one of the greatest clubs ever invented. It is called the Hybrid or the Rescue. The reason it is so great, it has taken the place of the long irons. The two, three, four irons there obsolete. The reason is because your two three and four irons are very difficult to hit. Look at how thin the blade is here. Look how narrow that is.
Take a look at the Hybrid. There is a lot of mass behind it, a lot of mass behind the face. Also the center of gravity on the Hybrid is very low which helps you hit the ball high. The tough thing about the long irons is always hitting the ball high and having the ball land soft. Not anymore check out the hybrid.
The other thing about the Hybrid is you have got to treat it like an iron. You always want to feel like you are going to hit down on it, so the ball goes up. You don’t want to treat it like a fairway metal. The fairway metal is a little too far up in your stance when you are trying t hit a little bit more on the upswing. The hybrid hit it on the down swing. The ball goes up nice and high, lands soft. Let me show you.
When you get set up, make sure the ball is slightly forward in your stance. Take your normal swing and then hit down on it just like you would a mid or short iron. That’s what I am talking about.

Keypoints:
1.	Ball forward in stance
2.	Same swing as an iron
3.	Hit down on ball

Golf Tips

Episode “Fairway metal”

Joe Beck: Joe Beck here, I am going to show you how to hit a fairway metal. Here is what I find that is most problematic with the amateur golfer. Typically the amateur is always trying to lift the ball up in the air, hit the ball up in the air. So when I watch them hit these fairway metals incorrectly, they set up on it, the balls a little bit too much more in the center of there stance.
Next thing I know they take it back and there back here like this. And they are trying to help it up in the air, that’s not going to work. You have got to be able to set up on it to where the ball is more forward in your stance. And then you are going to make your nice full swing. And with that swing your going to want to take just a little bit of a nick, little bit of a nick divot. That’s the most important part of this swing, let me show you.
That’s what I am talking about.

 Key points:
1.	Hit down on ball
2.	Ball forward in stance
3.	Full swing
4.	Take small divot

Golf Tips
Episode: “Flop shot”

Joe Beck: Here is the situation, we are going to have to hit this ball, high into the air, and let it land on the green like a butterfly with sore feet, and have it stop close to the hole. It’s not pretty but I think we can do it.
The way you hit this shot, you have to put a lot of elevation on it. So in setting up you want to play the ball slightly forward in your stance, have a little bit of a wider stance to get a good base. And then you’re going to make a normal swing with the club face slightly open. You want to move the club about the same speed as you move your body. Watch this.
That’s what I am talking about.

Key points:
1. Ball forward in stance
2. Wide stance
3. Open club face
4. Rotate club with body

Episode “Using a mid-iron off the tee”

Joe Beck: Joe here, I am going to show you how to hit a mid-iron on a par three. The first thing you need to know is that you never try to help the ball up in the air. What we are looking for is for you to hit down on the ball, so the club the way the manufacturer made it will help you launch the ball. The other key to it is being able to tee it up correctly. We are going to tee it up to about a quarter of an inch off the ground. We are going to make a nice full swing and try to take a nice little dollar bill size divot. Let me show you how to do it.
That’s what I am talking about.
1.	Hit down on ball
2.	Tee ball ¼ inch from ground
3.	Full swing
4.	Make dollar sized divot

Episode “The putt-Circle of friendship”

Joe Beck: Joe here, I am going to show you how to make this four foot putt. You just hit a great shot, you are about four feet from the hole, and you can see this little four foot radius here. I kind of call that the circle of friendship. If you get it in this area, your buddies will always say, hey pick that up that’s good. When the match gets tight, they make you putt it.
What I have found are the guys who are out of their routine, that are right hand dominate; they have a tendency to pull the putt. And then for the guy who is left hand dominate, he looks good but he is out of his routine, and his left hand takes over and all of a sudden he hits it to the right. And then finally you have the guy who has a complete brain lock.
(In head) Get up there and make the putt you can do it. Hang in there. This is ridiculous you’re never going to make this putt. Stay in your routine…
The first thing we are going to do is really work on our routine. And that’s part of reading the putt. Get behind the ball, take a look and see how the green is moving. That’s going to determine how the ball is going to roll to the hole. This one for example is going to be just right of center. So we see it. Ten we walk up to it, and you want to take a practice stroke to feel it. Number three; get set up on it, get comfortable, and then just do it.
That’s what I am talking about.
1.	Read the putt
2.	Take practice swing
3.	Get comfortable
4.	Make it

Episode “The fringe; Bump and run”

Joe Beck: Today we are going to talk about the bump and run, its one of the most important shots in golf. We need to get the ball on the ground and let it roll to the hole like a putt. We have got about ten feet of fringe in front of us, then after that we have got the green.
The biggest fault that I see, is that people play the ball too far forward in there stance, their weight is on their back foot and they have a tendency to chip up on the ball this way, which adds too much loft and obviously we can’t roll the ball. Here’s what it looks like the wrong way.
Notice the ball goes nowhere, that’s not what I am talking about. Here is what I am talking about right here. Set up on it with the ball back in your stance. Your hands are a little bit forward, and your weights going to be on your front foot. What you are going to do is feel a little bit of rotation in your hands and arms to put top spin on the ball. You have to have top spin on the ball so it stays on the grass and rolls to the hole like a put.
Let me demonstrate. That’s what I am talking about.
1.	Ball back in stance
2.	Hands in front of ball
3.	Weight on front foot
4.	Rotate hand right to left
5.	Hooded club face

Episode “The Bunker”

Joe Beck: Joe Beck here to show you how to get out of this steep bunker.
First of all, we are going to make sure the club face is absolutely perfect. We don’t want a square club face in the bunker. What we want is a club face that is a little bit open. We are going to key in on that when we get in the bunker.
Second thing that we are going to do is make sure that the ball position is up forward.
Number three is that we are going to make sure we are a little bit open to the target. After that we get setup. We want to make sure we hit behind the ball, hit it fat.
From there we are going to follow through.
Let’s go do it.
Remember we are going to have the club face to where it is a little bit open. When you setup make sure the ball position is just slightly forward in your stance. Our bodies going to be a little bit open to the target.
Then you want to keep your weight on your front foot, then the rest of its easy.
All you have to do is hit it behind the ball. Hit it fat and follow through.
Watch this.
That’s what I’m talking about.

Key Points:
1.	Open Club Face
2.	Ball Forward
3.	Open Stance
4.	Hit it Flat
5.	Follow Through

Episode “The Driver”

Joe Beck: Joe Beck here, I am going to show you how to hit it longer and straighter. First of all what were going to do is make sure that our hands are placed on the club with our arms tension free.
Second we are going to make sure that we turn our back to the target, and then our chest to the target. Third, make sure that the club and your arms stay nice and wide during swing, nice and wide during a swing.
Let’s go do it.
Remember you want to make sure that you place your hands on the club; keep your arms tension free. Then when you walk in and get set up. All you’re going to think about is turning your back to your target and turning your chest to the target.
That’s what I am talking about.

Key Points:
1.	Keep Tension Free
2.	Full Swing Right
3.	Full Swing Left
4.	Keep swing wide
